Hinton Airfield, Northamptonshire
Hinton Airfield was Go Fly Oxfords’ first location and is primarily a PPL and hours building base. We have both the Piper PA28 aircraft and Cessna 150 aircraft based here and it offers easy access to much of the UK from the air, being conveniently located on the border of Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.
The base is easily accessible by Road, being located just off the M40 and close to the M1 and also situated close to two railway stations at Kings Sutton and Banbury, allowing for easy access from Birmingham, Warwickshire, High Wycombe and London.
Hinton Airfield is an uncontrolled airfield, meaning there is no air traffic control tower here. Pilots make ‘blind’ calls to other aircraft to announce their position and intentions, this makes it an easy location to start your flight training at, with very simple procedures to getting in the air. The airfield is also shared with Parachutists and Gliders, so it can be an exciting place to fly from.
The airfield itself dates back to the 1940’s when it was built by the RAF Bomber Command. The airfield has been privately owned since the 1960’s. The airfield has a main tarmac runway and 3 grass runways available to use.
